O barítono americano Thomas Hampson visitou uma vez mais a Fundação Gulbenkian.
Apresentou um programa baseado n’ A Trompa Maravilhosa do Rapaz (Das Knaben Wunderhorn), colectânea de poemas germânicos que serviram de ponto de partida para Gustav Mahler escrever um dos seus mais belos e sensíveis conjunto de Lied.

Hampson apresentou-se como cantor e maestro de uma Orquestra Gulbenkian que se mostrou entrosada com o cantor, desempenhado brilhantemente a música do compositor natural da Boémia. De nota, além de Mahler, as interpretações de obras de Richard Strauss: Serenata para Sopros em Mi bemol maior, op. 7 e Prelúdio da ópera Capriccio, op. 85.
Thomas Hampson é um cantor que tem explorado de forma intensa o Lied alemão, já tendo uma gravação de excelência desta obra. Propunha o concerto numa sequência sugerida pelo próprio Gustav Mahler. E não poderia ter corrido melhor. A sua voz é conhecidamente magnífica, de um lirismo tocante, boa dicção e projecção. Acrescenta a isto uma capacidade interpretativa assinalável, o que fez com que o concerto se tornasse também um encontro intimista entre o público e o cantor e orquestra.
A destacar algumas interpretações diria: Der Tambourg’sell, Wo die schonen Trompeten blasen, Das irdische Leben (talvez dos poemas mais negros e marcantes), Das himmlische Leben e Urlicht.
É sempre um enorme prazer poder desfrutar da sua voz na Gulbenkian. Felizmente, este ano ainda volta com Luca Pisaroni.

The American baritone Thomas Hampson visited once again the Gulbenkian Foundation.
He presented a program based on Gustav Mahler’s Das Kanben Wunderhorn, collection of German poems that served as the starting point for Mahler to write one of his most beautiful and sensitive set of Lied.
Hampson presented himself as a singer and conductor of the Gulbenkian Orchestra which proved to be meshed with the singer, played brilliantly the music of the Bohemian born composer. Of note, in addition to Mahler, the interpretations of works by Richard Strauss: Serenade for Winds in E-flat major, op. 7 and Prelude to Capriccio opera, op. 85.
Thomas Hampson is a singer who has explored intensively the German Lied, already having a record of excellence of this work. It proposed the concert in a sequence suggested by Gustav Mahler himself. And it could not have gone better. His voice is known to be magnificent, of a touching lyricism, good diction and projection. Add to this a remarkable interpretative capacity, which made the concert an intimate encounter between the public and the singer and orchestra.
The highlight some interpretations say: Der Tambourg’sell, Wo die schonen Trompeten blasen, Das Leben irdische (perhaps one of the darkest and striking poems), Das Leben himmlische and Urlicht.
It's always a huge pleasure to enjoy his voice in the Gulbenkian. Fortunately, this year also back with Luca Pisaroni.
